Setting up delivery rules

Delivery rules allow you to assign different message dispatch schedules to messages of different importance. For example, if your organization wants to dispatch messages of low importance to a remote node at times when call charges are lowest, you can set up a delivery rule that assigns a schedule for cheap rate call times to a low importance priority. For each delivery rule you can assign different schedules to messages of high importance, low importance and normal importance.

Note: You must create delivery rules before configuring a remote Octel Analog Networking node.

To create a delivery rule:

  1. Start Octel Analog Networking gateway administration.
  2. For more information, see Starting Octel Analog Networking gateway administration.

  3. Click the Delivery Rules tab.
  4. Click the Add icon .
  5. The system inserts an empty line in the list of existing rule names in the Rule name box.

  6. In the Rule name box, type the rule name directly in the new line.
  7. Under Message delivery, click the importance to which you want to assign a schedule.
  8. You can select Low, Normal, or High.

The system displays a drop-down list of existing schedules.

  9. From the drop-down list, select the schedule which you want assign to the selected priority.
  10. For example, you may want to assign a schedule of cheap rate call times to messages of low importance. For information on creating schedules, see Setting up message dispatch schedules.

If required, you can assign the schedules Never and Always to a message importance. If you select Never, messages of the selected priority will not be sent at any time. If you select Always, messages of the selected importance will be sent at any time.

The system displays the selected schedule in the lower part of the tab display. The schedule is read-only.

  11. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for each importance.
  12. Click OK or Apply.
Note: To delete a delivery rule that is not being used, select the delivery rule in the Rule name field and click Delete or the Delete icon . The system prompts you to confirm the deletion.
