Logs record events that are useful for preventive maintenance, for diagnosing problems and troubleshooting the server, and for spotting trends or estimating future needs.
The following tables list the logs available for the Modular Messaging MAS and MSS.
MSS Logs |
Server Events
log |
This log
contains information about problems that you need to correct,
such as full subscriber mailboxes and undeliverable messages. These
problems directly affect message processing. It is recommended that you check the Server Events log daily. |
Subscriber
Activity log |
This log
maintains a history of the activity on the messaging system.
You can use this log to track a specific subscriber's activity
by extension and time and investigate problems with message
delivery. |
Alarm
log |
This log
contains descriptions of all significant problems detected
by the system, including those on any MAS as well as the
MSS. The Alarm log contains active alarms and resolved
alarms. Resolved alarms are alarms that were corrected
either automatically or by repair procedures. |
Administration

This log
identifies administrative events that occur on your system.
These events include information about any changes to your
system, such as logins, reports that
were run, or changes to software. |

MAS
Logs |
Displaying the MAS alarm logs |
These logs
contain descriptions of all significant problems detected
by the system on any MAS. The Alarm log contains active
alarms and resolved alarms. Resolved alarms are alarms
that were corrected either automatically or by repair procedures. |
Displaying the MAS event and error logs |
These logs
list every event involving the MASs in the system. These
events are detected and logged by the Microsoft Operation
Manager. |
Operation History Viewer Configuration |
This log
lists live events as they are generated and added to the
operation history database.
It also lists historical events stored in the operation history database.
An event is any significant occurrence in the voice mail system that is
of interest to an administrator for diagnostic or reporting purposes. Events
are generated by the various messaging application server (MAS) components,
for example, a Call Waiting state generated by the telephone user interface. |
Performance Monitor - Modular Messaging Counters |
The Performance
Monitor provides a large number of counters for monitoring
the performance of a MAS. You use each counter to monitor
a different activity. For example, you can monitor inbound
or outbound calls to the MAS, or check the number of ports
currently in use.
|
Port
Monitor |
The
Port Monitor provides a graphical user interface for checking
the current status of ports on a MAS. |
