Adding local subscribers

This topic describes how to manually add a local subscriber to your Modular Messaging system.

Note: You can use this procedure or the Mailbox Manager application to add local subscribers. It is recommended that you use Mailbox Manager to add a large number of subscribers, since you can add multiple subscribers at once instead of adding each subscriber individually. For more information about Mailbox Manager, see the Mailbox Manager User Guide.

To add a new local subscriber:

Note: If you are accessing the system through a dial-up connection and you have a large number of local subscribers administered on your system, you may want to filter subscribers to reduce the number of subscribers that display on the Manage Local Subscribers page. Doing this allows the page to download more quickly. See Sorting and filtering local subscribers for information about filtering subscribers.

  1. On the Manage Subscribers page, click Manage in the Local Subscribers row.
  2. On the Manage Local Subscribers page, click Add a New Subscriber.
  3. On the Add Local Subscriber page, complete the fields on the page. For more information, click the field names or Help.
  4. Click Save to add the subscriber to the system.

If the addition is successful, you are returned to the Manage Local Subscribers page. Otherwise the page will pop up a dialog box with an error message.

Note: It may take from 5 to 10 minutes for the Messaging Application Servers (MASs) to learn about this change.

  5. If you want to add additional subscribers, return to Step 2.
  6. You might want to back up system files if you added a large number of subscribers. This will ensure that you have a back of all subscriber data, including the subscribers you just added, in case of data corruption or if a system failure occurs. See Backing up system files (attended) for more information.
