R5/R6/R7/R8si to Avaya MultiVantage
Introduction
This section provides the information necessary to upgrade a DEFINITY
® R5si, R6si, R7si, or R8si system with a single carrier or multicarrier PPN to Avaya MultiVantage using the on-site upgrade method.
Refer to these reference books:
-
Maintenance for Avaya MultiVantage DEFINITY Server SI for changing the processor circuit pack.
-
Administrator's Guide for Avaya MultiVantage Software for information on how to administer features.
For hardware details, see
System Description and When to use the TN2401 versus the TN2401/TN2400 sandwich pack.
About circuit-pack carriers
If the system currently being upgraded was originally a System 75, the circuit-pack carrier or cabinet is no longer supported. This table identifies the obsolete carriers and cabinet.
Before you begin the upgrade
Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.
To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have
- identified the correct TDM bus cables and terminators for the upgraded system
- verified si expansion interface compatibility for packet bus applications:
If the new si system will have one or more expansion port network cabinets and will run any packet applications,
do not reuse the TN776 expansion interface circuit packs; they must be replaced with TN570 circuit packs.
- checked for software upgrade compatibility and identified any patches that need to be re-applied
- create the license file with RFA
Task List: R5/R6/R7/R8si to Avaya MultiVantage
Use this task list to upgrade from simplex or duplex R5si, R6si, R7si, or R8si systems to an Avaya MultiVantage PPN.
Ensure that these tasks are complete
before the upgrade visit:
- Verify the required hardware [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Provide the required tools [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Go to the RFA website [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Pre-upgrade administration [Avaya MultiVantage si]
Perform these tasks
during the upgrade visit:
- Verify the software version [Avaya MultiVantage si] to identify any software patches.
- Verify system status [Avaya MultiVantage si] to check the health of the SPE. Record any customer-placed busy-outs.
- Modify external alarm connections [Avaya MultiVantage si] if they change with the upgrade (for sites with external alarm reporting)
- Label and connect cables [Avaya MultiVantage si] if you are replacing a carrier or cabinet.
- Disable scheduled maintenance and alarm origination [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Check link status [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Record all links and remove only ISDN interface links [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Disable TTI [Avaya MultiVantage si] if it is enabled.
Do not skip this step!
Translations can be corrupted if TTI is enabled. Confirm that TTI is completely disabled before you save translation!
- Save translation [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Save announcements (TN750 or TN750B only) [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY LAN Gateway [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY AUDIX system [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Power down cabinet(s) [Avaya MultiVantage si] and unseat any adjuncts. For a high or critical reliability system in an SCC, power down both A and B cabinets.
- Verify TDM cables and connectors [Avaya MultiVantage si]. If new TDM terminators and cables are required, install them now.
- Remove translation card(s), TN790/B, TN778, TN777B or TN794 or TN794/TN2400 circuit packs [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- If the system has no administered BX.25 links, Remove TN765 circuit pack [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- For a high or critical reliability system, Replace TN772 duplication interfaces with the TN792 duplication interfaces (R6si or earlier) [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Install TN2404 and TN2401 circuit packs and original translation card(s) [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Power up the system [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Set Daylight Savings Rule [Avaya MultiVantage si]
Make sure the active tone clock is in the active SPE before continuing.
- Install the License File [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Administer No-License/Emergency Numbers [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Affix label [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Verify the upgrade [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Verify software version [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Restore busyouts [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- If you changed scheduled maintenance parameters, restore the original values. Re-enable scheduled maintenance and alarm notification [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Check customer options [Avaya MultiVantage si]
- Register the Switch for Maintenance [Avaya MultiVantage si]
