New software is installed whenever updates are required. Because Avaya media servers are always shipped with a working version of software, all "new" software installations done in the field are actually software upgrades.
Caution:
Make sure you have obtained (or know where to get) any required software,
license, and authentication files before beginning this procedure.
To install new software on an Avaya media server:
You can administer a computer over the network, or a remote computer using a PPP dial-up connection. Log in to the server.
The upgrade software may have been copied to a directory on your computer's hard disk, or it may reside on a CD-ROM or a different computer. Before beginning the software installation. Make sure that the server is configured for this site. See Configuration at a glance.
You can install new software from a laptop computer in the server room, anon:
Copy the software to the media server's FTP directory using the Upload Files to Server screen or Transfer files using FTP procedure.
Alternatively, you may be directed to download a file to the media server from another server on the network. See Download Files to Server for this procedure.
A software upgrade may also require new license or authentication files to be installed.
Check your release notes to see if a new license or authentication file (or both) are required.
If new files are required, it is easiest to copy them to the media server's FTP directory before the installation begins. See How to obtain and install new files for this procedure.
Caution:
DO NOT use the Install Avaya Authentication
or Install License screens if you are
doing a software upgrade! Simply put the new files on the server, then
let the Install New Software wizard handle the file installation.
On the main menu under Server Configuration and Upgrades, click the Install New Software Release link. Complete all screens beginning with Choose Software.

If you know who began the software upgrade and it is appropriate to continue, click the Continue button to continue the software installation from that point.
If the wizard is not correctly showing the first page, or if this software installation should be canceled, click Cancel and begin the software installation again.
When the installation is complete, verify that the new software is running.
If the new software is running correctly, make the server upgrade permanent.
It is possible that the new software changed some of the configuration fields or screens. After a software installation:
Run the Configure Server wizard again.
Page through all the screens looking for new fields that must be filled in.
Fill in any new fields as required, then complete the Configuration Wizard.
If no new fields appear, Cancel out of the configuration process on the Update warning screen.
