After installing new software, it is crucial to test it to verify that the software is behaving as expected and that no new problems are caused.
All of the following verification tests should be run after every software upgrade.
After you reboot the server:
In the main window of the media server web interface, click the View Process Status link under Server. Verify that all processes are up.
View Summary Status to check server status.
View Software Version to make sure the server is running the new software you just installed.
Telnet into the server and verify that you can make a connection.
After you install any new license files (if required) and close the Install New Software wizard: From the SAT program, check the server configuration as follows:
Type list configuration all and press Enter. Verify that the software is communicating with all media modules, and that all media modules are listed in the reports.
Type list media-gateway and check that the administered media gateways have registered (a y should appear in the far right column).
From the SAT program, perform an add or change operation and check that the translations are saved correctly. For example:
Enter the request �change station n�. Change the name of the station and submit. After making the change, do a �save translations�.
Verify that the command completes successfully. Afterwards, display the station again to verify that the new information is still present.
Verify that call-processing is working by making some test calls. For example:
Pick up a phone and verify dial tone.
Call one telephone from another. Verify that the destination phone rings, the call connects, and that a talk path is present.
Check that the phones display the correct calling and destination extensions, and that the line appearance lamps operate properly.
You may also wish to test the hold, transfer, conference, bridged appearance, or service observing features if available and used on the system.
Place 4 additional calls using a trunk access code, keeping the calls up as they complete. Observe that all four calls are connect successfully at the same time. The destination phone should ring and the phone displays should show the correct calling and destination extensions. Also observe the line appearance lamps for proper operation. Both red and green lamps should be lit for an active call on a line appearance.
After the software passes these initial verification tests, make the server upgrade permanent.
