Use this screen to start or stop the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) master agent. The master agent allows the active Avaya media server to "listen" on the SNMP port for incoming requests and commands (gets and sets). This topic covers:
The two Avaya media servers operate independently regarding
SNMP service. Stopping the master agent or disabling SNMP service on the
corporate LAN applies only to the server on which the operation is performed.
These actions must be repeated on the duplicate server to enable or disable
SNMP service.
To start or stop the SNMP master agent on this Avaya media server:
On the main menu under the SNMP section, click the Start/Stop Master Agent link. The Start/Stop SNMP Master Agent screen appears.
The screen shows the current status of the master agent: Up or Down. The button to either start or stop the agent appears as appropriate.
Normally the SNMP master agent is Up.
You may want to stop the master agent if you want to disable the capability to monitor the server using SNMP.
If the Master Agent is Up and you want to stop it, click the Stop Agent button.
The Start/Stop SNMP Master Agent screen refreshes to show a new status of Down, and the Start Agent button appears.
You can continue working with the web administration interface as needed.
If the Master Agent is Down and you want to start it, click the Start Agent button.
The Start/Stop SNMP Master Agent screen refreshes to show a new status of Up, and the Stop Agent button appears.
You can continue working with the web administration interface as needed.
If a problem occurs and the status does not change as expected:
On the main menu, click the Start/Stop Master Agent link again. Retry the operation.
If the problem persists, the media server may have a more serious problem. You may try to reboot the server.
The SNMP ports must be enabled on the corporate LAN interface for SNMP service to work. To check or change the SNMP settings on this screen:
On the main menu under Security, click the Set LAN Security link. When the screen appears, click the Advanced Setting button.
Check that SNMP ports161 and 162 are enabled. The checkbox for both these services must be checked for the media server to provide SNMP service.
The SNMP master agent listens on port 161 for incoming queries or commands (get or set messages).
SNMP traps are sent and received over port 162.
If you change any settings, click the Set Security button. Review the screen when it refreshes to make sure that your changes were made correctly.
Log in to the duplicate server, and repeat steps 1 through 3.
On either server, use the Configure Trap Destinations screen to set up SNMP destinations in the corporate network management system.
