Use this screen to initiate a firmware download to one or more Internet Protocol Server Interface (IPSI) circuit packs (TN2312). You can do so from either the active or the standby server, because a server interchange does not affect the download process. If a server interchange occurs during the firmware download, the download will not be interrupted as long as the server survives the interchange. If a server interchange occurs while downloads are scheduled, the downloads will run as scheduled as long as the server survives the interchange. Any firmware download failure is unrelated to whether the server is active or standby.
After the firmware download completes, upon reset the IPSI automatically activates the new firmware, regardless of how the IPSI reset was initiated (as a scheduled event, as the result of a power failure, and so forth). You can schedule the firmware activation using the Activate IPSI Upgrade screen, although the new firmware might activate earlier if the IPSI is reset for other reasons.
Make sure that you want to upgrade the IPSI firmware before
you initiate the download. Once you have successfully downloaded the new
firmware into an IPSI, you cannot cancel the upgrade.
To download firmware to your IPSI board:
On the main menu under IPSI Firmware Upgrades, select Download IPSI Firmware.
Select a time when you want the firmware download to begin by clicking the corresponding radio button:
Start Download Now. Choose this selection to download the firmware immediately.
Start Download at. Choose this selection to download the firmware at a time you specify. You must select the month, day, year, hour, and minute you want the download to run. The scheduled downloads are run sequentially.
If the date
and time you specify have already passed, the system assumes the download
should occur the following year.
Select the IPSI to receive the firmware download by clicking the corresponding radio button:
All IPSIs. Choose this selection if you want to download the firmware to every IPSI in your system.
Each IPSI
firmware download is independent of any other IPSI download. This is true
regardless of whether you initiate multiple downloads using the All IPSIs
option or you schedule each download separately. If a firmware download
to one of the IPSIs fails, the system will continue to initiate downloads
to other IPSIs.
IPSI on cabinet number __ carrier ID __. Choose this selection if you want to download the firmware to a single IPSI in your system. You must enter a cabinet number and select a carrier ID to specify the IPSI.
Select the file from which you want to download the firmware image by clicking the corresponding radio button:
Use Default File Name and Default Location. Choose this selection if you want to download the firmware from the default file, which is /var/home/ftp/ipsi–fw.bin.
Use This File (full path). Choose this selection if you want to download the firmware from a specified file. In this case, you must enter the full path name for the file.
Indicate whether or not you want to continue with the firmware download, even if the version to be downloaded is older than or the same as the current version:
If you want to download an older version of the firmware than currently exists, click the check box near the bottom of the screen.
If you do not want to download an older version of the firmware than currently exists, clear the check box. If the system detects that the firmware to be downloaded is older than or the same as the version you currently have, it will stop the download procedure and display a message in the View IPSI Download Status screen.
Click Download Firmware to begin the download process.
The download is either started or scheduled, depending on the start time you selected.
The firmware download is first
stored in RAM on the IPSI. After the entire download file has been successfully
sent to the IPSI, the IPSI burns the firmware image into ROM. The firmware
download is not permanent until the image has been completely burned into
ROM. If for any reason the download process is interrupted (for example,
a break in the network connection, a failure of the IPSI, power loss to
the IPSI, and so forth), you must initiate the download again.
