    Avaya Communicator chat

    Hi,

Does anybody know how to disable the chat for the Avaya Communicators?
The system is a Server Edition R9.1.5. and using the One-X Portal.
    Thanks

Do you still want to retain "presence" indication? - the two are closely intertwined so it will affect the possible answers.

      IM

      Hi,
yes, I don't understand how Presence and IM are working together and can't be separate. Or you stop the One-X Portal or you have both. For me it's a nonsense, maybe you need one thing but not the other.
I have seen an Avaya note that both are working together and if I want it separate I should create a GRIP (I already did it).
      Too bad.
      Thanks.

          Apologize

          markgallagher,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. My first yes was answering your question, yes I need Presence working but not the chat service.
But I have seen both are working together and apparently there is no way to separate it.
I didn't want to be rude.

          regards

            Hello,

It is in my opinion not possible to separate the two, it might be a good idea to have in future the possibility to activate/deactivate features within the One-X Portal. I suppose that the protocol the use, XMPP, is the reason why it cannot be simple switched off.

I think as it is implemented today, there will no possibility to separate the two features.

            Regards

              You cannot disable chat only.
I had the same discussion with a client too.

They feard, users spend too much time for chatting.
Tell them, chat is a helpfull feature to save time for things like 'please call back customer xx'
Users typically have several other options to really waste time. They will just use these...
In addition, chat features in IPO are very limited. No funny features if you compare to whatsapp as an example.
