"There is no email"

Currently using Nortel IP Softphone 2050 software, release 3.00.0197, under Windows 7 64-bit. E-mail program is Lotus Notes.

When IP Softphone starts, the following message is displayed:

There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

and I have to click the OK button so the program can start.

MSVCR71.dll is found in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Notes is the default e-mail client.

Is there any way to make the message not appear?

Pls try following:
Cause

i2050 Softphone initializes MAPI at the start. It includes the check whether a default email client supports MAPI, and if it doesn't, MAPI reports an error. Windows 7 is provided without email client installed. The issue also can happens in Windows XP if email client with MAPI support is not set as default.

Solution

The solution is to remove MAPI initialization from the start of i2050 Softphone. We should initialize MAPI only when we need to work with MAPI objects, i.e. when we start to work with outlook directory. MAPI initialization before we start to work with outlook directory is already implemented. The fix is likely to be included to i2050 Rls 4.3
