To organize a hive, you define a hierarchy of zones, which can be based on your organization’s structure, functional elements, geographic areas, or any combination of these characteristics.
The zone hierarchy determines how agent-based measurement tests are scheduled and test results are displayed. The purpose of the zone hierarchy is to identify places where end users need services so that these services can be measured and analyzed realistically on an end-to-end basis. So when you define zones, do so in the way that is most meaningful for your organization.
Table 5 describes how to organize zones based on how you want to measure network performance.

CNA measures end-to-end network performance at each level of the zone hierarchy for each zone that contains subzones or CNA agents. To measure end-to-end performance, CNA runs tests between every combination of the zone’s subzones. One test target is randomly chosen from each of the two subzones participating in the test. For more information on how these tests are scheduled, see Agent-based measurement tests.
You must plan your zone hierarchy at the same time that you plan deployment of CNA agents. The CNA agents must be in the correct physical location to measure network performance to that location.
