Create ODBC data sources
General information
The following procedures explain how to create an ODBC data source for each of the message databases.
Create ODBC data source for MCAdmin database
To create an ODBC data source for the MCAdmin database, do the following:
From the Start button, select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-click the ODBC Data Sources icon.
Result:
The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box appears.
From the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box, select the System DSN tab, and then select the Add button (for the MCAdmin database).
Result:
The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.
From the Create New Data Source dialog box, select the driver for SQL Server, and then select the Finish button.
Result:
The Create a New Data Source to SQL Server dialog box appears.
Enter Message Care SQL Admin in the Name text box.
Enter Message Care Admin database under SQL 7.0 in the Description text box.
Select (local) from the Server drop-down list, or type the name of the Server in the text box.
Select the Next button.
Select the With SQL Server authentication using a Login ID and password entered by the user option.
Type the user name (msgcare) in the Login ID text box and the password in the Password text box. Use the user name and password that you created in the Create an SQL Server login ID and password.
Select the Next button.
Select the Change the default database to check box, select MCAdmin from the drop-down list box (leave the default �Perform Translation for character data� checked), and then select the Next button.
When the new dialog box appears, keep the defaults, and then select the Finish button.
Select the Test Data Source button. You should see a TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY message. Click the OK button. Otherwise, check for errors in the data source name (DSN) definition by going through the steps again.
Create ODBC data source for MCMessages database
To create an ODBC data source for the MCMessages database, do the following:
From the Start button, select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-click the ODBC Data Sources icon.
Result:
The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box appears.
From the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box, select the System DSN tab, and then select the Add button (for the MCMessages database).
Result:
The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.
From the Create New Data Source dialog box, select the driver for SQL Server, and then select the Finish button.
Result:
The Create a New Data Source to SQL Server dialog box appears.
Type Message Care SQL Messages in the Name text box.
Type Message Care Messages database under SQL in the Description text box.
Select (local) from the Server drop-down list or enter the name of the Server in the text box.
Select the Next button.
Select the With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user option.
Type the username in the Login ID text box and the password in the Password text box. Use the user name and password that you created in Create an SQL Server login ID and password.
Select the Next button.
Select the Change the default database to check box, select MCMessages from the drop-down list box (leave the defaults checked), and then select the Next button..
When a new dialog box appears, keep the defaults and then select the Finish button.
Select the Test Data Source button. You should see a TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY message. Click the OK button. Otherwise, check for errors in the DSN definition by going through the steps again.
Create ODBC data source for the MCArchive database
To create an ODBC data source for the MCArchive database, do the following:
From the Start button, select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-click the ODBC Data Sources icon.
Result:
The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box appears.
From the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box, select the System DSN tab, and then select the Add button (for the MCArchive database).
Result:
The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.
From the Create New Data Source dialog box, select the driver for SQL Server, and then select the Finish button.
Result:
The Create a New Data Source to SQL Server dialog box appears.
Type Message Care SQL Archive in the Name text box.
Type Message Care Archive database under SQL 7.0 in the Description text box.
Select (local) from the Server drop-down list or enter the name of the Server in the text box.
Select the Next button.
Select the With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user option.
Type the user name in the Login ID text box and the password in the Password text box. Use the user name and password that you created in Create an SQL Server login ID and password.
Select the Next button.
Select the Change the default database to check box, select MCArchive from the drop-down list box (keep the defaults checked), and then select the Next button.
When the new dialog box appears, keep the defaults, and then select the Finish button.
Select the Test Data Source button. You should see a TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY message. Click the OK button. Otherwise, check for errors in the DSN definition by going through the steps again.
