Install Microsoft SQL Server
Installation instructions
Important!
Before installing the SQL Server software, ensure that you have met the system and installation prerequisites. For prerequisite information, see Microsoft SQL Server prerequisites.
To install Microsoft SQL Server, do the following:
Insert the Microsoft SQL Server CD-ROM.
Result:
The SQL Server installation automatically begins and you are presented with the SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 window (depending upon which version you are installing). If the installation does not automatically begin, select the Autorun.exe file from the SQL Server folder.

If you are installing SQL Server 7.0: From the SQL Server 7.0 window, select Install SQL Server 7.0 Components.
If you are installing SQL Server 2000: Select SQL Server 2000 Components from the SQL Server 2000 window.
The Install SQL Server 7.0 (or 2000) Components window appears.
Result:
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0: Select Database Server - Standard Editionfrom the Install SQL Server 7.0 Components window.
If you are installing SQL Server 2000: Select Install Database Server from the SQL Server 2000 window.
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0, the Select Install Method dialog box appears. If you are installing SQL Server 2000, the Welcome screen appears at this point; select the Next button to continue and the Computer Name dialog box appears.
Result:
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0: from the Select Install Method dialog box, check the Local Install - Install to the Local Machine option, and then select the Next button.
If you are installing SQL Server 2000: from the Computer Name dialog box, select the local computer option, and then select the Next button.
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0, the Welcome screen appears at this point; select the Next button to continue and the SQL Server 7.0 Software License Agreement dialog box appears. If you are installing SQL Server 2000, the Installation Selection screen appears.
Result:
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0: Read the license text and then select Yes to accept it. (If you select No, the installation terminates.)
If you are installing SQL Server 2000: Select Create a new instance of SQL Server, or install client tools
The User Information dialog box appears.
From the User Information dialog box, type your name and company (optional), and then select the Next button.
Result:
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0, the Setup dialog box appears. If you are installing SQL Server 2000, The SQL Server 2000 Software License Agreement dialog box appears.
Result:
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0: From the Setup dialog box, type your CD Key, and then select the Next button.
If you are installing SQL Server 2000: Read the license text and then select Yes to accept it. (If you select No, the installation terminates.)
If you are installing SQL Server 7.0, the Setup Type dialog box appears; go to step ***ERROR WHILE PROCESSING LINK TO "XREFstepsqlsetuptype"***. If you are installing SQL Server 2000, the Installation Definition dialog box appears.
(SQL Server 2000 Installation only.) Select Server and client tools and then select the Next button.
Result:
The Instance Name dialog box appears.
(SQL Server 2000 Installation only.) Select Default and then select the Next button.
Result:
The Setup Type dialog box appears.
From the Setup Type dialog box, select the Typical option and the desired destination folders. If you want to install the Program Files in a different location than the Data Files, use the following capacities:
Program Files - select a drive that has at least 200 MB of capacity.
Data Files - select a drive that has at least 10 GB of capacity.
Select the Next button.
Result:
The Select Components dialog box appears.
From the Services Accounts dialog box, do the following:

Select the Use the same account for each service Auto start SQL Server Service option.
In the Service Settings group, select the Use a Domain User account option, and then enter a Username, Password, and Domain in the respective text boxes.
Select the Next button.
The Start Copying Files dialog box appears.
Select the Next button.
Result:
The Choose Licensing Mode dialog box appears.
From the Choose Licensing Mode dialog box, do the following:

Select the default Per Server for option if you do not have a preference on the licensing mode.
Enter the number of licenses you require in the Per Server for text box. You will need licenses for the messaging software (five licenses required) and licenses for administrators, supervisors, and agents who will be accessing the system simultaneously.
(SQL Server 7.0 only) Select the Add Licenses button
Select the Continue button.
The system installs the software. If you are installing SQL Server 2000, the installation stops on the Setup Complete dialog.
(SQL Server 2000 Installation only.) Select Yes, I want to restart my computer and then select the Finish button.
Start the SQL Server Service if it is not already running. To start the SQL Server Service, do the following:

From the Start button, select Programs->Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (or Microsoft SQL Server)->Service Manager. The SQL Server Service Manager window appears.
Select the Server from the Server drop-down list box.
Select the MSSQLServer service from the Services drop-down list box, and then select the Start/Continue button and the Auto-start services when OS starts check box.
Select the MSDTC service from the Services drop-down list box, and then select the Start/Continue button and the Auto-start services when OS starts check box.
Select the SQLServerAgent service from the Services drop-down list box, and then select the Start/Continue button and the Auto-start services when OS starts check box.
Close the SQL Server Service Manager window.
All the SQL services are running and will automatically start upon starting the OS.
(SQL Server 7.0 only). Reboot the server.
(SQL Server 7.0 only). Follow the Installation Wizard instructions to install SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 1.
