Assembling the System (MAP/5PV4)
The following section contains the information needed to install ferrites, position the stabilizing feet, locate key components, and provide proper clearance for the cooling system.
Installing Ferrites (MAP/5PV4)
Note: You must install all required ferrites before you begin installing the system.
See Installing Ferrites for general information about installing ferrites. See Platform ferrites (MAP/5PV4) for specific information about installing ferrites on the MAP/5PV4.
Once you have installed all required ferrites, begin assembling your system.
Positioning the Stabilizing Feet (MAP/5PV4)
The MAP/5PV4 is a mini-tower configuration. The unit sits either on your desktop or on the floor under a desk. Both include four stabilizing feet attached to the bottom of the chassis.
To position the stabilizing feet:
- Place the chassis right side up on its stabilizing feet, as in the MAP/5PV4 Chassis figure.
- Firmly grasp a corner of the chassis to stabilize the unit.
- Turn the stabilizing feet out into position until they click as shown in the figure Positioning the Stabilizing Feet (MAP/5PV4). Ensure that each foot is fully extended into position. See Proper Clearance (MAP/5PV4) for information about the proper placement of the MAP/5PV4.
Key Components on the Front (MAP/5PV4)
See the graphic Front View (MAP/5PV4) and for a description of each component on the front of the MAP/5PV4.
Key Components on the Back (MAP/5PV4)
See the graphic Back View (MAP/5PV4) and a description of each component on the back of the MAP/5PV4.
Cooling System (MAP/5PV4)
Air must circulate inside and around the computer chassis to prevent components from overheating, which can cause system malfunctions. Using interior fans and ensuring proper clearance around the chassis are two ways to maintain proper temperatures within the computer.
Interior Fans (MAP/5PV4)
The interior fans help maintain air flow in the computer to prevent components from overheating, which can cause components to malfunction. The following table contains a description of each interior fan.
Proper Clearance (MAP/5PV4)
You must maintain clearance around the chassis so that air can circulate to prevent overheating. The final position of the computer must include a front-to-back clearance of at least 6 inches (16 centimeters) to provide for adequate air intake and exhaust.
Wherever possible, position the MAP/5PV4 to allow a minimum of 2 inches (5 centimeters) of space along both sides of the chassis. This allows proper air circulation.
