Overview of Commonly Customized Fragments and Announcements

To effectively customize your announcements, you must know the fragment numbers and the context in which they are most commonly used. This section provides that information.

Fragments and announcements combine to tell subscribers and callers what to do and what their options are for using the system. You can change AUDIX announcements to meet the needs of the business and of the subscribers. The procedures for doing this, and a more detailed discussion of the concepts and terms, are described in Customizing Announcements.

The fragments listed in the Commonly Customized Fragments and Announcements table are the most commonly customized fragments. Each fragment is listed with one of the announcements that contains it to show the context in which the fragment is normally used. In addition to the announcements listed in this section, the system uses most of the fragments in other announcements, too. However, any other announcements that use a fragment will have a very similar construction to the announcements listed here.

The announcements and fragments listed apply to U.S. English, U.S. English TDD, and U.S. English 1-2-3. However, 1-2-3 fragments use numbers to identify touchtone keys, not letters. Also, you must re-record TDD fragments with a teletypewriter (TTY) connected to your telephone.

Fragments Related to Voice Director

The Avaya Voice Director feature provides spoken name recognition to help callers address messages or transfer to AUDIX subscribers. See Voice Director for more information about the feature.

When you install Voice Director, the announcement set on your system contains announcements and fragments that correspond to the actions subscribers can perform with the Voice Director feature. The announcement sets affected by Voice Director are U.S. English and U.S. English 1-2-3. You may wish to customize some of the announcements to fit the specific needs of your business. The procedures for doing this, and a more detailed discussion of the concepts and terms, are described in Customizing Announcements.

The announcements listed in the Commonly Customized Voice Director Fragments table are specific to Voice Director. The fragments with fragment numbers below f2150 are used in announcements for features other than Voice Director.
