Verifying that Message Manager is Activated

To confirm that Message Manager is activated for your Avaya Intuity system:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. Feature Options

The system displays the Feature Options Window.

  3. Verify that the Max Number of IMAPI Sessions, Current field contains a value that corresponds with the number purchased for your system. The value in this field must be at least 32 for Message Manager to operate.

Note: Intuity AUDIX Release 5 can support up to 96 IMAPI LAN sessions, depending on the AUDIX platform you purchased.

  4. Verify that the TCP/IP Administration field is set to ON.
  5. If either field is not set correctly and you purchased Message Manager, call the support center to request that Message Manager be enabled for your Avaya Intuity platform.
  6. Press F6 (Cancel) to return to the Avaya Intuity Main Menu.

Setting the Number of Simultaneous IMAPI Sessions

IMAPI, which is the software that allows access to AUDIX mailboxes through the LAN, allows up to 96 active sessions simultaneously. Message Manager uses one IMAPI session each time it accesses an AUDIX mailbox.

To set the IMAPI options:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. AUDIX Administration

The system displays the AUDIX Command Prompt Screen.

  3. At the enter command: prompt, enter change system-parameters imapi-options
  4. The system displays the System-Parameters IMAPI-Options Screen. The table for Field Definitions: System-Parameters IMAPI-Options Screen provides additional details about the screen fields.

  5. Enter the maximum number of IMAPI LAN sessions you will allow at any one time in the Maximum Simultaneous Sessions: field. This number should include sessions for subscribers who are logged in to their mailboxes using Message Manager, Internet Messaging, and other trusted server applications, such as the Enhanced-List Application (ELA).
  6. This number cannot exceed the value in the Total Sessions Purchased: field.

Note: Monitor system performance to ensure that you do not have too many IMAPI sessions set. If the response time over the LAN becomes unacceptably slow, decrease the number of sessions.

  7. Enter a length of time (in multiples of 5 minutes) in the IMAPI Session Timeout (Minutes): field. If the Intuity AUDIX server does not detect activity from a subscriber for this length of time, the Intuity AUDIX server logs the subscriber out of AUDIX. This frees the IMAPI session for another subscriber.

Tip: Keep the IMAPI Session Timeout (Minutes): field set low, preferably at 5 minutes to ensure availability of IMAPI sessions for other subscribers.

  8. Enter y in the fields labeled:
  9. Check New Messages?
    Deliver CA Messages?

    Message Transfer?

The first setting tells Message Manager to periodically check subscribers' AUDIX mailboxes for new messages. The second and third settings tell the AUDIX system that Message Manager is allowed to transfer messages across the LAN to the Message Manager program.

  10. When you finish entering IMAPI options, press F3 (Enter) to save the information.
  11. The cursor returns to the command line, and the system displays the message:

    Command Successfully Completed.

  12. Enter exit or another administrative command at the enter command: prompt.

Administering TCP/IP Networking

TCP/IP is a set of protocols that links computers across a wide variety of networks. A TCP/IP connection to the AUDIX server is required for Message Manager to function. TCP/IP is administered once, regardless of how many applications on the Intuity AUDIX server require the TCP/IP addresses. TCP/IP administration must be completed if your Intuity AUDIX system uses Message Manager, trusted servers, or TCP/IP digital networking.

If your system does not already have TCP/IP administered, complete the steps in Setting Up a Network Interface Card and Changing TCP/IP Administration.

Enabling Subscribers for Message Manager

Now that the platform is administered to handle the Message Manager application, you must give subscribers access to Message Manager. There are two ways you can enable subscribers for Message Manager:

If you have a large number of subscribers to administer, defining or revising a COS is more efficient than enabling each subscriber individually.

Note: The following tasks contain instructions relating only to the one or two fields on a particular screen that relate to Message Manager administration. See Subscriber Administration for complete field descriptions.

Enabling Message Manager on an Individual Basis

To administer an individual subscriber for Message Manager:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. AUDIX Administration

The system displays the AUDIX Command Prompt Screen.

  3. At the enter command: prompt, enter change subscriber name/number where name/number is either the name or the telephone extension of the subscriber you want to administer.

  4.

Tip: To see a list of existing subscribers enter li su at the command line.

The system displays the Subscriber Screen, Page 1.

  5. Press F7 (NextPage).
  6. The system displays the Subscriber Class of Service Parameters Screen, Page 2.

  7. Enter y in the fields labeled:
  8. IMAPI Access?
    IMAPI Message Transfer?
    Trusted Server Access?
(Set this field to y only if Message Manager will be exchanging messages with an external email server.)

    Security Risk!
Allowing IMAPI and trusted server access increases the possibility for toll fraud. See System Security for more information.

  9. Set the Voice Mail Message Maximum Length: to 1200 seconds.
  10. Set the Call Answer Message Maximum Length: to 1200 seconds.
  11. Set the Mailbox Size Maximum: to at least 4800 seconds.

  13. The cursor returns to the command line, and the system displays the message:

    Command Successfully Completed.

  14. Enter exit or another administrative command at the enter command: prompt.

Enabling Message Manager by Defining a COS

To administer predefined groups of subscribers for Message Manager:

  1. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  2. AUDIX Administration

The system displays the AUDIX Command Prompt Screen.

  3. At the enter command: prompt, enter change COS name/number, where COS name/number is the unique COS you want to administer.

  4.

Tip: To see a list of existing Classes of Service enter li cos at the command line.

The system displays the Class of Service Screen, Page 1.

  5. Enter y in the fields labeled:
  6. IMAPI Access?
    IMAPI Message Transfer?
    Trusted Server Access?
(Set this field to y only if Message Manager will be exchanging messages with an external email server.)

    Security Risk!
Allowing IMAPI and trusted server access increase the possibility for toll fraud. See System Security for more information.
