Activating Alarm Origination


 


Do not activate alarm origination for MERLIN LEGEND integrations unless the customer has purchased the optional alarm origination feature.

To activate alarm origination you must:

Administering the Alarm Management Window

To administer the Alarm Management window:

  1. Clear all alarms.
  2. Check the disk cartridge drive for a disk cartridge.
  3. If the drive does not contain a disk cartridge for the nightly backup, insert a disk cartridge into the drive.
     


    Do not activate Alarm Origination unless the disk cartridge drive contains a back-up disk cartridge.

  4. Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
  5. Customer/Services Administration
    Alarm Management

    The system displays the Alarm Management Window.

  6. Enter the product ID number in the Product ID field.
     


    The product ID is always a 9-digit number beginning with the number 2. Do not continue without the correct product ID number.

  7. Move the cursor to the Alarm Origination field.
  8. Press F2 (Choices).
  9. Select
  10. Active

  11. Press ENTER.
     

    Note: With alarm origination active, the system automatically sends out alarms to the remote support center.

  12. Verify that the entry in the Alarm Suppression field is inactive.
    If it is not, move the cursor to the Alarm Suppression field,
    press F2 (Choices), and select inactive for the field.
  13. Press F3 (Save).
  14. The system displays an information screen and the following message:

    Alarm Form Update was successful
    Press (Enter) to continue.

  15. Press ENTER to exit the information screen.
  16. If you want to test the alarm origination or if a significant amount of time has elapsed since administering the Alarm Management screen, continue with Testing Alarm Origination.

    If you do not want to test the alarm origination, continue with Making an Attended Backup.

Testing Alarm Origination

To test alarm origination:

  1. Press F8 (Change Keys).
  2. The system displays the alternate set of function keys.

  3. Press F1 (Test Alarm).
  4. The system displays the Alarm Origination Test Menu.

  5. Select:
  6. Execute Alarm Origination Test

  7. Press ENTER to begin the test.
  8. The system displays the following message:

    Alarm Origination tests may take up to
    5 minutes to complete. This test will
    be run in the background.

    Press <y> to confirm.
    Press <n> to cancel.

  9. Press y
  10. Wait approximately 1 minute.
  11. Select:
  12. Review Latest Test Results

  13. Press ENTER.
  14. The system displays the Alarm Origination Test Results Screen (Showing a Test in Progress).

  15. Verify that there is not an entry on the screen that corresponds with the time you sent the alarm.
  16. Wait for approximately 4 minutes.
  17. Select:
  18. Review Latest Test Results

  19. Press ENTER.
  20. The system displays the Alarm Origination Test Results Screen (Showing Successful Test Results).

  21. Verify that the message on the screen shows the current day, date, and time and displays the following message:
  22. Alarm origination test successful.

  23. Press F6 (Cancel) until you reach the Avaya Intuity Main Menu if the test completed successfully.
  24. If you are finished with the installation, press F6 (Cancel) until you log out of the system.
