MAP/40P RAID System Recovery

Identifying a Failed Hard Disk Drive

LEDs on the failed hard disk drive will usually not be lit or flashing. However, there are some instances where a failed hard disk drive will have a lit or flashing LED. See the MAP/40P Internal Layout.

To identify a failed hard disk drive:

  1. Reboot the system.
  2. Press ESCAPE to remove the splash screen.
  3. The system displays messages detailing the condition of all hard disk drives. The system displays a message similar to the following message for the failed hard disk drive:

The SCSI device at address [chn#0:tgt#x] is DEAD

where # is the hard disk drive number.

Note: If the system scrolls past the above message before you are able to record the drive number, contact your remote maintenance center.

  4. Identify the failed hard disk drive using the hard disk drive number.

Recovering from a Hard Disk Drive Failure

To recover from a hard disk drive failure:

  1. Identify the failed hard disk drive.
  2. Remove the failed hard disk drive.
  3. Install a new hard disk drive.
  4. The system should automatically rebuild the hard disk drive. The hard disk drive LED will flash to indicate the rebuild activity.

  5. If the system does not automatically rebuild the hard disk drive, contact your remote maintenance center.
