What's new

The following features and capabilities are new for Avaya IR Release 1.2.1.

Non-English Languages for VoiceXML with NLSR

Avaya IR Release 1.2.1 extends VoiceXML capabilities to include support for non-English, single and double byte NLSR languages. For more information, see Using TTS and speech recognition languages with VoiceXML.

RealSpeak interface

Avaya IR supports VoiceXML and TAS applications that integrate with ScanSoft's SpeechWorks RealSpeak TTS speech engine. The addition of RealSpeak increases the languages that Avaya IR supports with TTS. For more information, see SpeechWorks RealSpeak TTS package.

Dial Pulse Recognition

Avaya IR can receive and recognize dial pulse input from callers. Avaya IR does not transmit dial pulses. For more information, see Dial Pulse Recognition.

Double-Byte processing for databases

Avaya IR can pass double-byte data into a database and receive data from a database in a double-byte character set. Support for double-byte data handling applies to VoiceXML voice response applications only, not to TAS voice response applications.

Also related to databases, JDBC drivers are no longer provided with Avaya IR. Instructions are provided for locating and downloading the JDBC driver for each database type. For more information, see Installing JDBC drivers.

Collect call blocking for R2MFC

Avaya IR can be set up to block non-agent assisted collect calls. Currently, an unassisted collect call sends a tone to indicate that a Collect Call is arriving. If a person receives the tone, they have the ability to decline the collect call. Releases earlier than Avaya IR Release 1.2.1 do not have the ability to decline the collect call. For more information, see Digital protocol - R2MFC feature.

Note:
This feature is currently offered only in Brazil.

VoIP Station Authentication

The VoIP feature has been enhanced to authenticate with the Avaya Communications Manager (CM) 2.1 switch.

To improve security, passwords can be assigned to VoIP communication channels. For more information, see Voice over IP feature.

VoIP and digital interfaces (E1/T1) on the same platform

VoIP and T1 or E1 switch interfaces can be administered and used on the same Avaya IR platform at the same time. This capability enables customers to migrate to VoIP without completely changing over to a VoIP system. For more information, see Voice over IP feature.

Security improvements

One aspect of the security improvements is the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol within VoiceXML and the Web Administration tool to manage the security of messages and data transmitted over the LAN. The implementation of SSL provides a more secure environment for our customers, and especially those customers who pass sensitive data within their network. For more information, see Security enhancements in Release 1.2.1.

Migration/upgrade strategy

Avaya IR Release 1.2.1 supports migration from the previous Avaya IR platforms. Customers on CONVERSANT V6.1 or later platforms can migrate data from previous platforms and upgrade to our newer platforms. Upgrades from previous Avaya IR platforms are also supported. For more information, see Migration.
