The first point of contact for licenses of the IR system is called the Primary WebLM server. You can designate a WebLM server as Primary, by configuring the URL of that WebLM server in the Primary WebLM Server URL field on the License Configuration screen
You can install the Primary WebLM server on the same platform as the IR system or you can install the Primary WebLM server on a different platform. If the Primary WebLM server is installed on the same platform as the IR system, then the WebLicensing Manager Server package (AVweblm) will have to be installed on the IR platform. For more information, see WebLM Server package.
In the Standard Licensing mechanism, the Primary WebLM server is the first point of contact of the IR system. If the number of licenses requested by the IR system is not met by the Primary WebLM server, the IR system will contact the Secondary WebLM sever (if installed) with its request for the number of licenses not met by the Primary WebLM server.
In the Enterprise Wide Licensing mechanism, the Primary WebLM server remains the first point of contact of the IR system.
Example: If the sum of the total number of licenses you have configured in Web Administration for Digital Interfaces and Voice over IP in Web Administration (Using Switch Interfaces > Digital Interfaces Protocols screen and Switch Interfaces > Voice over IP screen) is 35, and only 20 licenses are available with Primary WebLM server, the IR system will query the Secondary WebLM sever with a request for 15 additional licenses. If there are 15 licenses available in Secondary WebLM server, then you will receive 15 licenses.
In Standard Licensing, you need to install a single WebLM server called Primary WebLM server, which will contain the license file. This license file will contain the features and the number of ports which have been purchased by you. In case the licenses requested by you are not available, the system will go into either the Grace mode or the Restricted mode of operation. For more information, see Grace Mode and Restricted Mode.
The IR system keeps updating the status of the licenses used by sending renew requests to the Primary WebLM Server.
