Checklist for adding a new Serenade Analog remote machine

The following table lists the procedures required for adding a new Serenade Analog remote machine to the Message Networking system. The procedures appear in the sequence in which they are performed.

Completed Task
Verify that the Serenade system is enabled for analog networking:
  • At least one analog port card is installed.
  • Protocol 5: Octel Analog Networking, NameNet, and Fax features are turned on in the Serenade system.
Obtain the completed planning worksheet for the remote machine. You will use the information from this worksheet when you configure the remote machine parameters for the new Serenade machine.
Obtain the Dial Plan Mapping requirements for the remote machine from your account representative. You will use these requirements to determine how to map the new system's dial plan.
Determine the type of subscriber update to use for the new system (Full, Dynamic, or Directory View). You will select the subscriber update type when you add the remote machine to the Message Networking system.
Verify the Octel Analog Serial Number field on the General Parameters page on the Message Networking system to ensure you enter the correct serial number for the Message Networking system on the Serenade system.

Administer the Message Networking system as a Serenade network node on the Serenade system:

  • Look for or add the route or routes that the Serenade system uses for Message Networking.
  • Add Message Networking as a new location on the Serenade system.
  • Add a numbering plan for Message Networking.
Administer the remote machine parameters for the new Serenade Analog remote machine.
Administer the Dial Plan Mapping for the remote machine, using the Dial Plan Mapping requirements you obtained.
  Administer directory views, if appropriate.
Verify that the remote machine has been added to the Message Networking system:
Perform a remote machine connectivity test.

Administer subscribers. For Serenade Analog remote machines, the following methods of adding subscribers from the remote machine to the Message Networking system are supported (listed in order of preference):

  • Set up the Self Registration Agent ID on the General Parameters page and instruct remote subscribers on the new system to send a message.
  • Use FTP to upload a subscriber list to the Message Networking system.
  • Initiate Bulk Add by File from the Message Networking system.
  • Perform a Bulk Add by Range.
Verify the subscriber update by viewing the Subscriber List by Machine Name on the Message Networking system.
(Optional) Run a Demand Remote Push to the Serenade system to manually update the Serenade system.

Note: A Demand Remote Push can take some time so it is recommended that this step be performed during off-peak hours.

Update existing remote machines in the Message Networking network for subscribers on the new Serenade Analog system. The Adding and updating subscribers overview provides information on how subscribers are updated for the different types of remote machines.
