Activating alarm origination causes a remote location, such as
the remote service center, to receive notification of alarms that
occur on the Message Networking system. Notification can only occur
if the maintenance modem has been installed. See Connecting
the modem or Activating the
modem for more information.
To administer the Alarm Management page:
- Clear all alarms.
- Check the CD drive for a CD-RW.
If the drive does not contain a CD-RW for the nightly backup,
insert a labeled CD-RW into the drive.
Caution! Do not activate Alarm Origination unless the CD
drive contains a back-up CD-RW.
- Start at the Administration menu, and select Basic System
Administration > Alarming Administration.
The system displays the Alarm Management page.
- Type the product ID number in the Product ID field.
Caution! The product ID is always a 9-digit number beginning
with the number 2. Do not continue without the correct product
ID number.
- Select Active from the Alarm Origination drop-down list.
Note: With Alarm Origination active, the system automatically
sends out alarms to the remote service center.
- Verify that the Alarm Suppression field to Inactive.
- Complete the Alarm Level and Clear Alarm Notification fields.
Click the field names or Help to see complete field descriptions.
- Click Save.
The system displays an information screen and the following message:
"The alarm form has been updated."
- Run the Alarm Origination Test
to verify that Alarm Origination is functioning properly.
Notes:
- Alarm origination can only be set up on COM2, so the COM2 port
must be activated before you perform alarm management.
- If you purchase the Avaya Communication Manager Fault and Performance
Manager, you must configure the
Install Modem/Terminal Software page to comply with the MFPM
modem as follows:
- Select Other in the Modem Type field.
- Select 9600 in the Speed field
- In the Modem Init String field, enter the following
(entry is case-sensitive; all 0's are zeros) :
