Replacing the system platform

The field-replacement units on the Message Networking system are the analog-line interface card, the keyboard and mouse, the modem, the monitor, and their associated cables. If another system component fails, such as the hard drive, the entire platform must be replaced. If a component that requires a platform replacement fails, contact a technical support representative for instructions on obtaining a replacement platform.

When you receive the replacement platform, you must complete the following steps to return the system to service:

  1. Unpack the replacement platform. You will reuse the peripheral devices and cables from the old platform.
  2. Disconnect the monitor, keyboard/mouse, modem, RJ-11 lines, and LAN cable from the old platform. Label or carefully note the channel for each RJ-11 line as you unplug it.
  3. Connect the monitor, keyboard/mouse, and modem to the new platform. If you need additional information, see Connecting peripheral devices.
  4. Connect the LAN cable to COM2 on the new platform.
  5. Connect the RJ-11 phone lines to the correct channel on the new platform. If you need additional information, see Connecting the analog-line interface cards.
  6. Restore power to the system.
  7. Log in to the system as sa, using the default sa password of sapasswd.
Important! It is critical that you change the sa password from the default to avoid unauthorized access to the system.
  8. Perform switch administration.
  9. Restore the system from the backup.
  10. Verify the customer options.
  11. Test the system.

Note: If a login other than sa was used when replacing the platform, it is important that you now change the sa password from the default.
