Adding telephone number mapping for a remote machine

Use this procedure to add new telephone number mapping for a remote machine.

When you administer telephone number mapping, the Message Networking system attempts to match a digit string to the beginning of a specified base address. If a match is found, the matching digits are replaced by the series of digits you specify (the Map To field below). If multiple Map To entries match a base address, the entry that matches the greatest number of digits is used.

Note: If you are administering telephone number mapping for an existing Modular Messaging system, administer telephone number mapping on the Modular Messaging Message Storage Server (MSS) before administer the mapping on the Message Networking system. See the Modular Messaging Release 3 Documentation CD for detailed information.

To add telephone number mapping for a remote machine:

  1. Start at the Administration menu, and select Message Networking Administration > Remote Machine Administration > Telephone Number Administration.

The Telephone Number Administration page displays.

  2. From the Remote Machine Name menu, select the remote machine for which you want to administer telephone number mapping.

The system lists any existing telephone number mapping for the selected remote machine.

  3. Click Add New Mapping.

The Add New Telephone Number Mapping page displays. See the page help for detailed information about completing the fields on this page.

  4. Select the Telephone Number Initialization Type, which specifies the base address used to calculate the Telephone Number.
  5. In the Map From field, enter the digit string to be compared against the subscribers' base addresses specified in the Numeric Address Initialization Type field.
  6. In the Map From field, enter the digits string to be prepended to the base address after the digits that match the Map From field are stripped.
  7. Click Add to add the new mapping to the remote machine.
  8. Click OK to acknowledge the message that the mapping has been successfully added.

The Telephone Number Administration page displays, listing the new mapping for the remote machine.

  9. Repeat Steps 2 through 8 to add additional mappings for the remote machine.
  10. On the Telephone Number Administration page, click Apply Mapping.

Click OK to confirm that you want to apply the mapping:

    • The system updates all of the existing subscribers on this remote machine
    • The updated telephone numbers are transmitted to the Modular Messaging and other Message Networking systems in the network.

You do not need to apply the mapping if you have not yet added the subscribers from this remote machine. The mapping is automatically applied to any subscribers subsequently added to the remote machine.

  11. Click Return to Main.

Note: You can administer telephone numbers for individual subscribers by modifying the Telephone Number field on the Subscriber Parameters Administration page.
