Administering telephone numbers mapping for Modular Messaging

Modular Messaging supports administration of mapping and dialing rules that associate Calling Party Numbers (CPN) to the telephone numbers of remote subscribers in the messaging network. This allows Modular Messaging to provide call response options, such as sending a reply message or dialing the caller, to local subscribers receiving call-answer messages from remote subscribers.

You can administer telephone number mapping on the Message Networking system to create telephone numbers for all of the remote subscribers in the messaging network. The resulting telephone numbers are transmitted to the networked Message Networking and Modular Messaging systems. Modular Messaging uses the telephone numbers to identify callers as subscribers within the messaging network. For example, when a Modular Messaging subscriber receives a call-answer message, the Modular Messaging system attempts to match the sender's calling party number (CPN) to a local subscriber (via their PBX Extension) or remote subscriber (via their Telephone Number) in the database. If a match is found, the caller is identified as a system subscriber, and the local subscriber is given the option to call the sender.

See the Modular Messaging Release 3 documentation CD for more detailed information on planning and administering this functionality.

You can administer telephone numbers for individual subscribers by modifying the Telephone Number field on the Subscriber Parameters Administration page.
