An SNMP network management station (NMS) can perform queries of
system status information from Message Networking. SNMP is read-only
in the Message Networking system, meaning that an NMS can query
a Message Networking system for information, but cannot change that
information.
You can request the following types of information about a Message
Networking system via SNMP queries:
System information:
- Version installed
- Module uptime
- Active alarms (major, minor, and warning)
Network information:
- Number of machines administered on the Message Networking system
- Number of messages waiting to be transmitted
- Active network connections:
- Digital (TCP/IP, SMTP, VPIM)
- Analog (AMIS, Octel Analog Networking)
The method used to authenticate queries depends on the version
of SNMP running on the NMS making the request:
- For versions 1 and 2c, community
strings are required to secure access.
- For version 3, users (views)
are required to secure access to SNMP information.
See Administering SNMP for information
on the steps you must complete to administer SNMP queries on the
Message Networking system.
