This topic describes how to boot the Messaging Application Server
(MAS) Domain Controller in to Directory Services Restore Mode.
You must have the Safe mode administration password in order to
successfully boot in to Directory Services Restore Mode. If you
do not know your Safe mode administration password, refer to the
S3400 login accounts form in Appendix A of the Installation
Guide (pdf). This form was completed when the system was initially
installed.
To boot the MAS Domain Controller in to Directory Services Restore
Mode:
- Copy the backup file to the local C: drive:
- Click Start > Run and type \\mss1\masbackup
in the Open field and click OK.
- Enter your Windows domain name and dom-admin account name
(DOMAIN\don-admin) and password when prompted and click OK.
- Select the backup file you want to restore and copy it.
- Click Start > Run and type explorer
in the Open field and click OK.
NTExplorer is launched.
- Expand My Computer in the left-hand pane.
- Select Local Disk (C:) and paste the backup
file.
- Restart the system.
- While the system is restarting, press F8 when
you see "Starting Windows..." at the bottom of the screen.
The system displays the Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu.
- Using the up and down arrow keys, highlight Directory
Services Restore Mode (Windows 2000 domain controllers only)
and press Enter.
The system restarts in Directory Services Restore Mode and the
login screen appears.
- Enter Administrator in the User name field.
- Enter your Safe mode administration password in the Password
field.
- Click OK.
The system displays a message confirming that Windows is running
in safe mode.
- Click OK.
- Continue with Restoring backed-up
MAS data (after a non-catastrophic failure).
