Logging in to the MSS

You can log in to the Message Storage Server (MSS) as system administrator using the sa login or as voice messaging administrator using the vm login. See the following table for information about the differences between the logins.

Login Definition Allows you to access:
sa system administrator
  • All Messaging command prompt screens
  • All Avaya web-based administration pages, except a few pages that are accessible only to a service technician
vm voice messaging administrator
  • Most Messaging command prompt screens
  • Subscriber management and password administration web-based administration pages.

Note: Logging in through a telnet session is not supported for sa an vm logins.

Login procedure

To log in to the MSS:

  1. Turn on the monitor.
  2. The system displays the following message:

    console login:

    Note: The sample screens, menus, and pages provided in this help system may vary slightly from your system display.

  3. Enter the appropriate login, either sa or vm. The system is case sensitive, so use lowercase letters.
  4. The system displays the following message:

    password:

  5. Enter the password for your login.

  6. The system displays one of the following, depending on your login:
