Reassigning local subscriber default passwords

If a subscriber forgets his or her password, you must reassign a default password to allow the subscriber to regain the ability to log in to the system. The subscriber should then change the default password to a unique, personal password.

Note: You can use this procedure or the Mailbox Manager application to reassign passwords. For more information about Mailbox Manager, see the Mailbox Manager User Guide.

To reassign a password:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:
  2. Global Administration
         Subscriber Management

    The system displays the Managing Subscribers page.

  3. In the Local Mailbox Number field, enter the local mailbox number for the subscriber whose password needs to be reset and click Edit Subscriber.

    If you do not know the subscriber's local mailbox number, do the following:

    Note: If you are accessing the system through a dial-up connection and you have a large number of local subscribers administered on your system, you may want to filter subscribers to reduce the number of subscribers that display on the Manage Local Subscribers page. Doing this allows the page to download more quickly. See Sorting and filtering local subscribers for information about filtering subscribers.

    1. On the Managing Subscribers page, click Manage in the Local Subscribers row.

      The system displays the Manage Local Subscribers page.

    2. Highlight the name of the subscriber whose password needs to be changed.
    3. Click Edit the Selected Subscriber.

      The system displays the Edit Local Subscriber page.

    4. Continue with Step 3.
  4. On the Edit Local Subscriber page, in the Subscriber Security section, enter a default password in to the Password field. Click the field name or Help for information about system password constraints.
  5. Click Save to save the information that you changed on the page.

    The system saves the new password and displays the Manage Local Subscribers page or the Managing Subscribers page, whichever you were using previously.

  6. Note: It may take from 5 to 10 minutes for the Messaging Application Servers (MASs) to learn about this change.

  7. Notify the subscriber of his or her default password along with the system password constraints.
  8. If you are finished administering local subscribers, click Return to Main.
