For security purposes, the Avaya™ S3400 Message Server allows
only three login retries per subscriber session (call to the system)
before disconnecting. The system also monitors the number of consecutive
unsuccessful login attempts to a specific mailbox across multiple
calls to the system. If this number exceeds the number defined in
the Consecutive Invalid Attempts field on the System-Parameters
Features screen, page 1, the system locks out that subscriber's
login ID, thus preventing further system access. The subscriber
cannot access the system until you unlock the subscriber's login,
even with the correct password. For more information about the System-Parameters
Features screen, page 1, see Defining basic
features and parameters.
Things to consider about unlocking a subscriber's
mailbox:
Security/toll fraud |
If a subscriber is repeatedly locked out of the system, some
unauthorized person might be attempting to tamper with that
subscriber's mailbox. Report this to the subscriber's manager
or to your company security office before unlocking the mailbox.
If the unsuccessful login attempts were made from an extension
other than that of the owner of the mailbox, the Administrator's
Log contains information about the break-in attempts. |
Page access |
Administrators using the sa login can access the Manage Local
Subscribers page and unlock a subscriber's mailbox. |
Note: You can use this
procedure or the Mailbox Manager application to unlock a subscriber's
mailbox. For more information about Mailbox Manager, see the
Mailbox Manager User Guide. |
Unlocking a subscriber's mailbox
To unlock a subscriber's mailbox:
- Start at the Messaging Administration main
menu and select:
Global Administration
Subscriber Management
The system displays the Managing Subscribers page.
- In the Local Mailbox Number field, enter the local mailbox number
for the subscriber whose mailbox needs to be unlocked and click
Edit Subscriber.
If you do not know the subscriber's local mailbox number, do
the following:
Note: If you are accessing the system through a dial-up
connection and you have a large number of local subscribers administered
on your system, you may want to filter subscribers to reduce the number
of subscribers that display on the Manage Local Subscribers page. Doing
this allows the page to download more quickly. See Sorting
and filtering local subscribers for information about filtering subscribers. |
- On the Managing Subscribers page, click Manage
in the Local Subscribers row.
The system displays the Manage Local Subscribers page.
- Highlight the name of the subscriber whose password needs
to be reset.
- Click Edit the Selected Subscriber.
The system displays the Edit Local Subscriber page.
- Continue with Step 3.
- On the Edit Local Subscriber page, in the Subscriber Security
section, select no from the Is Mailbox Locked?
drop-down list.
- Click Save to store the information that you
changed on the form.
The system unlocks the subscriber's mailbox and displays the
Manage Local Subscribers page or the Managing Subscribers page,
whichever you were previously using.
Note: It may take from 5 to 10 minutes
for the Messaging Application Servers (MASs) to learn about
this change. |
- Inform the subscriber that his or her mailbox
is again available for login.
- Click Back to return to the Manage Local Subscribers
page or, if you are finished administering local subscribers,
click Return to Main.
