Call Handling With the Call Handling feature, subscribers can administer the system to differentiate between calls that reach a mailbox because an extension is busy or because there is no answer. Select the Call Handling parameter to enable Call Handling for a Class-of-Service (COS).

Caller Applications Caller Applications is a feature that is used to create applications to route calls or play pre-recorded information. Caller Applications allows administrators to extend those parts of the Modular Messaging TUI that are accessible to callers.

Caller Applications (CA) Editor

Select the Caller Application parameter in the COS assigned to subscribers to associate a Caller Application with subscribers' primary extension numbers. See the online help for the Edit a Class-of-Service page.

Select the Caller Application Announcement Recording parameter in the COS assigned to subscribers to enable subscribers to record prompts for Caller Applications. See the online help for the Edit a Class-of-Service page.

Associate a Caller Application with a subscriber's secondary extension number. See the online help for the Edit a Class-of-Service page.

From the TUIs, subscribers can record Caller Application prompts.

Greetings and prompts for a subscriber mailbox Subscribers can set up the Modular Messaging TUIs to play personalized Call Answer greetings to callers. Select the Record Mailbox Greetings parameter in the COS assigned to subscribers to enable them to record greetings. See the MSS online help.

Select the Extended Absence Greeting Allowed parameter in the COS assigned to subscribers to enable them to use the Extended Absence Greeting (EAG) feature. See the MSS online help.

Mailbox Initialization Mailbox Initialization is a feature that plays instructions to new subscribers the first time they open their mailboxes. These instructions guide subscribers through the process of changing their password and recording their spoken name. In addition, Modular Messaging Aria TUI subscribers can record the ’Please Hold’ prompt and personal greetings using the initialization feature. Enable New Mailbox Initialization. Personal Operator Personal Operator is an extension number or mailbox that callers are directed to if they request help and select 0 from within a subscriber's mailbox. Set up attendant schedule properties for a VMD. See VMSC - VMD - Telephone User Interface - Personal Operator Schedules Tab.

Sorting TUI messages Modular Messaging can be configured to sort messages by urgency, time received, or message type. This sort order is used when subscribers access messages from the TUIs.

Time and greeting settings for a VMD Administrators can configure the time and greeting settings for a VMD. These settings define an organization’s daily business hours and control when certain greetings are played by Automated Attendant. Configure time and greeting settings for a VMD. Languages, Encoding, and Text-to-Speech (TTS)
Audio Encoding Modular Messaging supports the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) 6.10 and G.711, A-law and µ-law voice encoding formats.

Multilingual Call Answer Subscribers can configure their mailboxes to support up to three languages, including Teletypewriter (TTY), for Call Answer sessions. Primary language The primary language is the language that is used by the TUIs. The primary language is also used if multilingual text-to-speech (TTS) conversion is requested, and the language of the text cannot be determined. VMSC - VMD - Languages Dialog Box From Subscriber Options and Web Subscriber Options, subscribers can select a primary Call Answer language.

Text-to-speech (TTS) TTS conversion enables subscribers to hear their e-mail messages read over the telephone. Enable multilingual TTS and select languages to be used for multilingual TTS.

Voice messaging Voice messaging enables subscribers to create, receive, and forward voice messages.

Subscribers that are not enabled for voice messaging cannot receive Call Answer messages and cannot use the TUI to access their mailboxes. However, they can still use an e-mail or Web client to create, forward, and receive messages.

System Lists
Communities and Sending Restrictions A community is a group of subscribers to whom administrators can assign some type of calling restrictions. Administrators can create a community to prevent members from:
  • Sending mail to other groups
  • Receiving mail from other groups

Addressing and Networking
Dial by Name Dial by Name is a method of addressing that allows callers to spell a recipient's name on the telephone keypad. VMSC - VMD - Telephone User Interface - Dial By Name Tab

Select the Permit Callers to Access Directory Services option to allow callers to use Dial By Name. See VMSC - VMD - Telephone User Interface - Caller Tab.

Networking The MSS uses Internet standard networking protocols to communicate with other networked Modular Messaging and Messaging Networking systems. When networking is administered, subscribers can exchange messages with subscribers on other messaging systems in the network.

Call Me With Call Me enabled, Modular Messaging calls subscribers at a designated telephone number or telephone list, when subscribers receive a message that meets subscriber-specified criteria.

Call Screening from Automated Attendant Call screening requires callers to announce themselves before subscribers answer their calls. Subscribers can then decide whether to take the call.

Intercom Paging Intercom Paging allows Modular Messaging to page subscribers when the subscribers are not at their desks. Once subscribers are paged, they must return to their extensions to receive the call. If subscribers do not respond to the page, the system transfers the callers to their mailboxes.

Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) MWI is a method of alerting subscribers when messages that meet specified criteria arrive in their mailbox. Subscribers are alerted by either a lamp indicator on the telephone or an audible tone when they pick up the receiver.
