The Avaya S3400-family MAS and supplementary tracing servers use
a Digital Versatile Disc Read Only Memory (DVD-ROM) drive as their
removable-media device. This DVD player is a read-only device.
Replacing a DVD drive
To replace the removable-media drive in a server:
- Verify that the replacement equipment is on site and appears
to be in usable condition, with no obvious shipping damage.
- Remove the drive cage.
- Replace the DVD drive.
- Reinstall the drive cage and return
the server to service.
- Verify operation of the new drive.
Replace the DVD drive
To replace a DVD drive:
- Remove the 4 screws that secure the faulty drive to the drive
cage (2 per side). See figure Removing or
replacing a DVD drive.
- Slide the faulty drive out of the drive cage. Set it aside.
- Set up the replacement drive to be a slave on the IDE bus.
See figure DVD jumper settings.
- Locate the mode select connector (the 10-pin connector
next to the IDE signal connector).
- Move the jumper to the 2 pins labeled Slave.
- Insert the new drive into the drive cage.
- Reattach the 4 screws that came with the new DVD player to secure
it in place.
Note: Be sure to insert the screws so the drive is offset
about 1 inch from the front of the server.
- Reinstall the drive cage and return
the server to service.
Verify new drive operation
To verify that a new DVD player is working:
- Insert a CD or DVD into the new drive.
- Verify that the server can access the disk:
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the D: drive.
- Verify that the information on the disk is correctly displayed.
Note: If the replacement DVD is a different model of drive,
the system might prompt you to load new drivers. Follow the instructions
on the screen.
