VMSC - VMD - Dialing Rules Dialog Box

This topic describes how to use the Dialing Rules dialog box to configure rules for local subscribers to dial remote subscribers who have left call-answer messages.

If the call originator is a remote subscriber and the calling party number matches a dialing rule, the local subscriber is given the option to either reply to a call-answer message or call the originator of the message.

For local subscribers to be able to call the originator of the message, you need to:

Set up the access codes required for dialing numbers inside and outside the organization.

Create dialing rules for the voice mail domain. Dialing rules are based on the number of digits in the calling party number and their starting digits.

To open the Dialing Rules dialog box:

In the Voice Mail System Configuration window, click the voice mail domain.

Double-click Dialing Rules. The system displays the Dialing Rules dialog box for the selected VMD, with the General tab active.

To configure Dialing Rules properties, complete the following fields:

Trunk access code Enter the code used to dial outside of the local dialing plan.You can type 0-20 characters, using digits 0 through 9, * (star) and # (pound).

Long distance code Enter the code to dial a number outside the local area codes. You can type 0-20 characters, using digits 0 through 9, * (star) and # (pound).

International code Enter the code used to dial an international number. You can type 0-20 characters, using digits 0 through 9, * (star) and # (pound).

Dialing Rules This displays a list of dialing rules which indicate when the access codes should be prepended to an outbound telephone number.

Opens the Telephony Dialing Rule dialog box so that you can configure a new rule. When you have clicked OK, the system adds a line to the Dialing Rules list for the new rule.

Opens the Telephony Dialing Rule dialog box for the rule currently selected in the Dialing Rules list. You can modify the rule and click OK to update it.

Deletes the rule selected in the Dialing Rules list. The system prompts you to confirm the deletion.

Number length Displays the phone number length of the originating call for the dialing rule.

Starting digits Displays the initial sequence of digits of the originating call for the dialing rule.

Dialing codes Displays the type of dialing access for the dialing rule. This can be set to:

None, ‘No dialing codes required’.

One, for instance, ‘Use trunk access codes’.

A combination, for instance, ‘Use trunk, long distance and international access codes’.
