G3V4vs/R5vs/R6vs to
Avaya MultiVantage

This section provides the information necessary to upgrade a DEFINITY ® vs (G3V4vs, R5vs, or R6vs) system to Avaya MultiVantage.

The vs cabinet cannot be upgraded to Avaya MultiVantage. To upgrade a vs cabinet, you must change out the vs cabinet and install an si cabinet (SCC1). You can reuse the port circuit packs from the vs system only if a site inspection determines that the port circuit pack vintages are reusable.

Before you begin the upgrade

Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.

To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have

Ensure that these tasks are complete before the upgrade visit:

  1. Verify the required hardware [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  2. Provide the required tools [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  3. Go to the RFA website

  4. Pre-upgrade administration [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

Perform these tasks during the upgrade visit:

  1. Unpack and inspect control cabinet [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  2. Install new control cabinet [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] or Install new control cabinet with earthquake protection [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  3. Label and connect cables [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  4. Install TDM/LAN bus terminators [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  5. Swing existing system into maintenance position [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  6. Check existing software load [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] to identify any software patches.

  7. Verify system status [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] Record any customer-placed busy-outs.

  8. Disable scheduled maintenance and alarm origination [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  9. Check link status [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  10. Record all links and remove only ISDN interface links [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  11. Disable TTI [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] if it is enabled. Do not skip this step!

  12. Translations can be corrupted if TTI is enabled. Confirm that TTI is completely disabled before you continue!

  13. Save translation [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  14. Save recorded announcements (TN750B) [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  15. List configuration software version [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  16. Confirm that TTI is completely disabled before you continue!

  17. For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY LAN Gateway system [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  18. For systems so equipped: Shut down the DEFINITY AUDIX system [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  19. Power down existing system [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  20. Remove ground connections [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  21. Move 25-pair cables from G3V4vs System to Avaya MultiVantage si

  22. Move management terminal cable from G3V4vs System to Avaya MultiVantage si


Note: Any BX.25 adjunct links to adjuncts (for example, CMS, AUDIX, INTUITY, or others) that are to be retained will still reside on the existing TN765 processor interface (P/I) in the designated P/I slot.

  1. Move circuit packs from G3V4vs System to Avaya MultiVantage si

  2. Verify TDM cables and connectors [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]. If new TDM terminators and cables are required, install them now.

  3. Connect control cabinet power and ground [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  4. Power up [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  5. Install the License File [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  6. Administer No-License/Emergency Numbers [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  7. Set Daylight Savings rule [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  8. Check customer options [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  9. Verify the upgrade [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  10. Restore busyouts [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  11. Run acceptance tests [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  12. Enable TTI [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  13. Enable Scheduled Maintenance and Alarm Notification [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  14. Register the switch for maintenance [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  15. Restore announcements [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] or Rerecord announcements [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si] as necessary.

  16. Save announcements and translation [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  17. Disassemble the G3V4vs System [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]

  18. Return equipment [G3V4vs, R5vs, R6vs to Avaya MultiVantage si]
