    Abbreviations

Now I thought Nortel was bad for TLAs, acronyms, and initialisms, but as for Avaya...

Is there a central repository for definitions of abbreviations? If not, where would be the best place to start one?

Great idea - there are several acronym lists in InSite. But they are mostly specific to a product group.

Let me see what we can do. Maybe we create a bevy of them, such as:
    - Avaya Acronyms A-C
    - Avaya Acronyms D-F
    - etc.

And let them grow organically with everyone's participation.

I'll contact you in email and let you know what I come up with.

I think we need to capture all kinds of abbreviations, not just acronyms. However, I don't think we should go as far as to attempt a general glossary, which would be impossibly large.

          Abbreviations

Yesterday we encountered an abbreviation that neither ex-Nortel nor Avayan managers could identify!

I can count 14 undefined abbreviations on the main forum page today. A lot of these are well known, but that's not to say everyone knows them.

There is a Glossary on the Tech Ops Wiki, but this is:
              a) specialized
              b) internal access only.

I've been sent a link to the following generic resource on Enterprise Portal, which also allows new additions.

Shame it's not more widely available!

                  the solution is TO SHARE

                  Hello
                  aint we Avaya workers?
so we can have the share tool to build up this techtionary.
                  engineers are masters of acronyms

The worst thing about the acronyms is that Avaya will not allow you to search on three letters. For example CCE SAP CRM ACM VP cannot be searched on.
