    Cm 3.x upgrade to 6.1

    Hi all ,

We have a cm upgrade from 3.x.
Can I just backup the 3.x transulations and restore to cm 6 ?

    Thanks

You can backup your translations as a CM3 and restore them after upgrading to CM6. This would be considered a translation only upgrade.

      Thanks for the reply.
Just wondering why the cm upgrade document dint mention this,
It says we need to upgrade 3 to 4.0.5 and then upgrade to 6.2?
Are they taking about full upgrade (translation, server and security files) ?
Once again thanks for the reply.

Are there any other important files other than cm translation in a cm database?

          Cm 3.x upgrade to 6.1

Backing up the CM translations from CM 3.x and plugging them to CM 6.x might not be the best choice. Although CM translations are backward compatibile, however, there are serveral changes done from CM 3.x to CM 6.x data structures and just plugging the CM 3.x translations to CM 6.x might introduce translation corruption and in worst case scenario get one to either rebuilt the whole CM administration, or choose an alternative method. 1st, you would need to upgrade to CM 4.0.5, then install pre-upgrade patch and then backup the translations. I recommend following the Avaya recommendation. Please take a look at the upgrade path below

          Upgrade paths
          **************
Release 3.x.x (all other servers): Upgrade to Release 4.0.5 and then install a preupgrade service pack before you upgrade to Release 6.2.

What's New in Avaya Aura™ Communication Manager, Avaya Servers and Media Gateways for Release 6.0 (Page 32)

I replied to a similar question. You might find additional links and documents there:
IP Telephony, Gateways (e.g. GXXX Media, MG1000E, Application 1000, 2000), CCS/SES, S8xxx, Distributed Office, G860, ACE, Communication Manager

          hope this helps.
