We just went through Avaya upgrade from CM 5 to 6.2 with our vendor last month. We were provided two new S8800 servers each location for redundancy (HP DL360G7).
There is something that really irritates me with the new installation. I'm not sure if this is a standard Avaya practice, but I would like to find out:
1.They don't provide us the kraft password (We did have kraft access when we were on CM 5). The vendor told us we don't need it because they already provide us with a login basically is the same level as "kraft" login. Is this possible? Because I can't run some command with the provided login (For example, I can't go to shell with the provided login). The vendor said Avaya has a policy to never provide "kraft" password to the client. I personally find this unacceptable and would like to see if this is the truth.
2.We asked about system platform and CM6 "root" password for console access. The vendor said the login won't work. Our vendor said Avaya locks down the root access as soon as the license is applied to it, and the vendor doesn't even have the root access to the console, so they can't provide us root password.
Are these true? Does Avaya really have these policies mentioned above?
And I'm very curious -
Why can't we install Utilities server (as a VM) on the S8800 box? Our vendor say we have a "duplex configuration" for our CM6 install. They said the utiliy server does not come with the "duplex configuration". I don't get it. Why do we need duplex configuration for utilities server? I meant the system platform is there, the box has plenty of available CPU and memory left for utility server. Can't they just put the "simplex" utilities server in there?
