CPMGS cards with 4 GB of memory upgraded to rel. 7.6 only recognize 3 GB of memory.
Staged CS1000E Rel. 7.5 CPPM with CPDC primary sig server/security server and 5 survivable gateways with CPMGS cards. CPDC and CPMGS cards had 2GB of memory for Rel. 7.5 System upgraded to Rel 7.6 before deploying to live customer environment. We had not yet received the memory upgrades to increase to 4GB as recommended by the release notes, so we attempted the upgrade anyway. The upgrade completed very successfully and there were no warnings about memory size. After we received the addidtional memory 2 GB of memory were added to CPDC and CPMGS cards. After the memory upgrade, only the CPDC card recognizes the full 4GB of memory, but the swap size did not increase: [admin@ipt-bd-west-primary ~]$ memSizeShow Total server memory: 4096 MB [admin@ipt-bd-west-primary ~]$ memShow available used free shared buffers cached Mem: 4216459264 3520598016 695861248 0 236158976 2178461696 Swap: 2130337792 0 2130337792 Total: 6346797056 3520598016 2826199040 All of the the CPMGS cards only show 3 GB of memory: [admin@ipt-bd-mine-surv ~]$ memSizeShow Total server memory: 3072 MB [admin@ipt-bd-mine-surv ~]$ memShow available used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3188760576 2996342784 192417792 0 183881728 2253496320 Swap: 2171465728 0 2171465728 Total: 5360226304 2996342784 2363883520
solution:
It’s technical limitation that CPMG can use only 3 GB of RAM. Release notes will be updated for SP3. Swap size can be recalculated without reinstall but it is dangerous operation which can cause file system corruption. So the official way to recalculate swap size is to reinstall system. So the reality it’s not necessary design intent but it’s hardware limitation. This should not affect the performance. Documentation is forth coming. Two documentation wi (wi01116279 and wi01116283) for updating NTP with correct CPMG RAM size. Also Release Notes will be updated when Service Pack 3 is available.
