    CM template patch explanation

Can someone explain the different patches for CM 6.3 Template?

There appear to be three levels

    1. PLAT RHEL (Is this RedHat OS?)
    2. Kernel (what is Kernel?)
    3. 03.0.124.0-xxxxx (Is the the CM app itself?)

The kernel and platform service packs address security vulnerabilities in CM's operating system. #3 is a service pack for the CM application and affects call processing.

      There are 3 levels

      1. Kernel file is for the Linux OS on which the server runs.
      2. PLAT is the platform security patch.
      3. The other are related to CM version, 6.3 SP 9, SP 10 etc. Apart from that we also have shellshock CM patches based on the version. For CM 6.3, we have SP 21904 and so on.

      Hope this is clear !!

CM patches are installed to make fixes related calling functionality. Any bugs in the previous versions may be rectified with latest ones.

Also, there are customer specific CM patches which are developed as per their requirements.

If I have ,PLAT, kernel and CM patches to install. Is there a best practice order to follow?

I also have a patch for system platform. When I patch the utility server I remove the existing patch and install the updated patch. I assume the same process is involved for system platform an the CM template.

For those that are service effecting how long on average does a reboot take?

            CM template patch explanation

Every Linux System Have their Patches. In a patch Generally 3 Things Happend.
            1. Add--> Add New Codes for Better Functionality

            2. Change--> Change codes for Removal of Security Bug.

            3. Remove--> Removal of code which is obsolte.

As far as your concern with Avaya which is base on RHEL/ CentOS Below are descriptions.

            1. PLAT RHEL (Is this RedHat OS?)
Somewhere it is related because the base is RHEL. PLAT Patch is generally for
Security Related Features in Avaya CM. Its resolve the Security related issue's like
Login Failure, Directory access prevention etc.

            2. Kernel (what is Kernel?)
Kernel is a Soft layer between user shell and Hardware. it process user command to hardware. And If we talk about Kernel Patches in Avaya ; Kernel Patches are used for Removal of Bugs in Avaya System Kernel's. it will Also remove the vulnerability of Linux Kernel.

            3. 03.0.124.0-xxxxx (Is the the CM app itself?)
These CM Patches are contain Newly updated Linux applications or Software updates i.e. glib , pyhton , sshd , apache etc.
These Patches are also contain fix of abnormalties in Avaya CM engine.
