    AURA System / Session and SES

    Hi, I just have a couple questions about product direction.
    • Will SES be phased out going forward?
    • What about independent S8500 and SES co-resident? Will there be a Sys / Session combo that will be co-resident to replace SES?

    No-one seams to want to answer this. Perhaps the answer should come from product management. Normally (in the past) announcements on end of life of products come in official Marketing announcements. Any thing else is just speculation. I'm a bit out of the loop but I'd expect such an official announcement in the next few months. Till then I guess you‘ll have to wait. Of course most of us have thoughts on what will happen, but till then I’ll keep mine to myself.

      Yes, I also agree on the political nature of my question. Also, I think I know the answer...AURA SIP will replace SES eventually. The real question is whether AVAYA will create a version of AURA Session Manager that will run co-resident on S8300 and single S8800 (S8500 CM Standalone) servers as SES does today?

      Also I must admit, I used to really want AVAYA to just build in SIP to CM as a native supported protocol like H.323. Now however, I understand and support the direction of letting CM become a peripheral application for handset features. AURA will / is revolutionizing the AVAYA voice architecture. I hope AVAYA can partner with someone on the video and UC front so we can get to the next-gen collaboration and communication applications.

        SES is growing into Session Manager. After many years of getting the SIP stack in place to work with CM as a registrar, Session Manager will take its place. CM 6.0 will not be supported with SES 5.2 but be replaced with SM 6.0.
        Co-Res is simply a topology piece and BSM or Branch Session Manager will take its place soon. Not only is SM easier to program and maintain than SES but its more scalable and flexible.

          What kind of hardware will be needed to upgrade to CM 6 with these new SIP features? If your currently on CM 5.1 will you be able to upgrade all the way to CM 6?

            It would be an awful bummer to upgrade an S8300D from 5.2.1 to 6.0 and lose sip station capability. What kind of upgrade is that?

              It seems that when SES transitions to only Session Manager, that co-resident CM SES will turn into "Branch SES" and that would be the only version of SES still around?
