    CS 1000 architectures

    I have some questions about CS1000, cause I'm novice in Nortel:
    1. CS1000M is large system model, but CS1000E is also capable of supporting 5000 analog + 5000 digital + 22500 IP users. So it is also large system design. But how it is possible? these servers are stacked together?
    2. Why COTS servers for signaling were introduced in hardware?

    Here is my answer to your question:

    [Jacky Fan] The CS1000E is large system with TN format l s c u and maximum 256 loops (the same as CS1000M) The CS1000E struture is like CS is running MGCP over ELAN, the MGC(media gateway controller) is running in Mediat Gateway ,such as MG1010 to connect to CS ELAN. Config is defined in LD 97 and EM. CS1000E can support 50 MG, 1 MG can hold 10 TDM cards (digital and analog) maximum . One TDM card can have 16 port , so the maximum TDM port will be 50*10*16=8000.
    For IP phoneset, it is also defined in LD 97 for virtual loop. 50 MGC will use 25 superloop ,plus at least one conference loop and one tds loop for each MGC, so only 100 loops (256-25*4-50) left ,which can be 25 virtual superloops for IP phoneset , 1 IP phoneset virtual superloops will have 1000 IP phoneset (32*16*2),thus is 25000 IP phoneset for CS1KE with maximux TDM capacity.

    2. Why COTS servers for signaling were introduced in hardware?
    [Jacky Fan[COTS was first introduced in Rel 5.0 only as VxWorks Signaling Server for cost effective. Since in Rel 6.0, the UCM is introduced and Signaling Server can only be run on Linux OS as application. Compared to Avaya provided CPPM card as Signaling Server, the customer will have a feasible way to decide to choose COTS(HP,IBM brand) server as the design solution. Also some COTS hardware is more powerful than CPPM.In lab test, the Vmware virtual machine can also be deployed as Linux SS ! (really great, it means you can only buy a powerful hardware and install as many as VM for Linux SS)

      Hi Jacky,

      one question:
      "50 MGC will use 25 superloop ,plus at least one conference loop and one tds loop for each MGC, so only 100 loops (256-25*4-50) left"

      2 loops for each MGC, one for conference and the other for tds. So 50 MGCs will use 50*2=100 loops, only 56 loops (256-25*4-50*2) left.

      So 56/4=14 superloops left for IP Phone, the max IP Phone is 14*2*16*32=14336 if deployed 50 MGC, am I right?
