    4548GT-Flow Control Behavior

    Hello,
I upgraded some ERS4548GT last week from Sw5.0.1 and 5.1.x to Sw 5.6.1.
    Uplinks ports (45, 46, 47,48) are connected to 2 x ERS 8600 (Sw 5.1.8.3), SMLT triangle design.
On the ERS4548GT before upgrade on the uplink ports we had:

45 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Custom 1000Mbps Full Symm
46 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Custom 1000Mbps Full Symm
47 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Custom 1000Mbps Full Symm
48 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Custom 1000Mbps Full Symm

    After Upgrade:

45 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Enabled 1000Mbps Full Asymm
46 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Enabled 1000Mbps Full Symm
47 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Enabled 1000Mbps Full Asymm
48 1 Enable Up Up Enabled Enabled 1000Mbps Full Symm

So we have not some performance or connectivity issue.
The flowcontrol parameter is set to default (Auto).
    Any ideas of these changes.
    Many thanks.
    JG.

Generally we test only to N-2 upgrade/downgrade for any given software release. So this means for 5.6.x releases, we have performed extensive testing of 5.5.x as well as 5.4.x. with only minimal testing on SW releases prior to that. It could be likely when upgrading from an old release such as 5.0.1 or 5.1 to 5.6.1 that some settings may not updated correctly.

As advise 5.6.2 is now posted & available, you may want to consider that SW.

When upgrading software from releases before N-2, best method would be to:
    1) save binary configuration to USB or TFTP for backup.
    2) save ASCII configuration to USB or TFTP server.
    3) perform diagnostics & agent code upgrade.
    4) default switch/stack to factory default.
    5) reload the ASCII config file.
    6) check configuration & save binary & ASCII config file.

      Hello Sydney,

      Thanks for your quick answer!
Thanks for your explanation about software upgrade, it could be an explanation of incorrect flow controls settings.
But we had also disabled two of the four uplink ports before upgrade to the same ERS8k (To avoid potential slpp loop detection at ERS8k side when 4548GT reboots).
Then put it enable again after 4548GT upgrade.

Before switch upgrade, we of course backup switches configs, then upgrade diag and Sw. We then checked the whole switches config and the flow control seems to be the only changes (except the documented switch credentials settings).
But we will probably not have enought time to reset switches to default and load ascii configs (Around 60 switchs upgrade in 3 nights, the next 2 sundays).

      About 6.2 Sw:
This was a big issue for me, I saw the new available release same day we we had to begin upgrade. As we had no return on this version we opted to stay on the target one (5.6.1).

      Thanks again.
      JG.

        Hello buddies:

i have a similar issue with one server, attached an ERS 4850 gigabit interface

the server reports "Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric" (linux Server)

and the flow control reported in the show interface command output is "flow control Asymm"

so my Question is How to set the interface in ERS switch to Symmetric?

There is no symmetrical option over ERS!!! WEIRD ....

        MEX-SWCORE(config-if)#flowcontrol port 1/2 ?
        asymmetric Asymmetric mode
        auto Automatically detect flowcontrol mode
        disable Disable flow control

i like just to confirm there is no support for this in this release
