As long as they have stack ports and you have a stacking cable they should be able to stack together. I've never attempted to stack two different model switches but I can't find anything that says it won't work, as long as you've got a new enough firmware to support stacking.

      Hi:

zakabog is correct. So long as you enable the rear stacking ports you can mix and match the 3500 series. Anything in 5.1 can be stacked, be aware of the Bootloader upgrades in 5.1 and above.

The only downside here would be if you had different functionalities in the stack (IE: One switch with POE and the other without or one switch with 10/100 and one with gig ports).

This works well though. I have two mixed stacks that I implemented for budget-friendly reasons.
