Why enable SIP Trunks and H.323 Gatekeeper?

In the IPOCC Deployment Guide and the recently released IPOCC Installation Task Based Guide it states that SIP Trunks and the H.323 Gatekeeper must be enabled

What purpose do these setting have on systems where SIP trunks and IP Phones are not used?

e.g. an IP500V2 with ISDN lines and 14xx phones

    Thanks

    Steve

As far as I a aware, IPOCC connects to the IP Office using a SIP Extension, not a SIP Trunk.
A SIP Extension needs the SIP Registrar enabled.

In my lab I have disabled H.323 and SIP Trunk and IPOCC appears to be working OK.

        I have been advised that:

SIP Trunks are not required specifically for IPOCC
H.323 Gatekeeper is not specifically required for IPOCC
