Max reservation time on topic

Anybody can explain to me, what means the max reservation time setting on a topic. I have red the help, but still dont understand it.

If the calls are distributed to agent groups and we are using ring timeout (8 sec) on the group, than it is irrelevant.
Is it right ?

Max. Reservation time is time period agent can hold/Reserve queue call for him to handle. After agent reserve call and Max reservation time over then call can be available in queue for next free agent.

Its not related to Ringing time. Its used when call is in queue.
