no correct DSPs balancing between G650 and G450

    Hi All,

We have a customer that has some problems because they have a coverage that when they have an inbound call, the call goes to 5 extensions. We realize that we didn't have enough DSP resources, because we found some "No VOIP Resources" alarms.

We add a PN, giving the system more DSP resources, but...Is there any problem found where you have G650 and G450 providing resources, and the system have any problem requesting resources to the G450 when the G650 is already connected?

It's strange to see, in peak hours, all the resources from the G650 are used but not all the resources of the G450... and at the same time we have some % of denegation of DSP resources.

VoIP resources G650 PN and a G450 MG in the same network region

Earlier, when there was a G650 PN and a G450 MG (or other H.248 MG) in the same network region, then Communication manager first allocates VoIP resources from the G650 before it allocates resources from the H.248 MG. This means in your scenario, that during peak hours, CM will allocate and exhaust all resources on the G650 VoIP circuit packs

This concern was raised and it was modified, Please take a look at this: https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100175596
As part of Enhancements delivered to Communication Manager 6.2 SP1

"This modification affects the algorithms for selection of audio media processing resources. Specifically, when a network region contains both TN2302/2602 and H.248 media GWs, the system no longer selects the TN2302/2602 resources to the complete exclusion of the H.248 media gateways. Now selection is from both classes of resources according to the relative presence of each. If there are TN2302/2602 resources and H248 resources in the ratio of 10:1, then resources will be allocated in approximately the same ratio. The second significant change is that resources located in regions which are indirectly connected to the region of the requesting endpoint are no longer all grouped together in terms of preference. A resource in a closer network region is preferred over a resource in a further network region."

    - what is the version of the Communication manager?
    - what is the version of the firmware on the GW?
    - what type of H.248 GW do you have?
    - what type of VoIP resource circuit pack do you have?

Also, allocation of resources would very much depend on the nature of the call and the other resources needed. Let's say if you have E1/T1 calls and you may or may not use direct IP. this case VoIP resources are needed too for TDM/IP conversion and intergateway communication.

    Hope this helps

      Thank you very much.

We have Cm 6.0.1 SP11 and we have found that this problem is already solved in SP 8. Refer to Avaya Aura® Communication
      Manager 6.0.1 SP11 Release Notes.

In any case, is like when system need a resource...it prefer to select a G450 one intead of G650.
