    Change Auto Attendant Message

We've had our Merlin Magix system for around 10 years or better. The system was always managed by one person who is no longer with the company. We need to change the Auto Attendant auto-answer greeting, but we can't figure out how to get started. We've all been involved a bit and know we use a handset and enter some codes to get to the setting. We just can't get started.

We have Avaya 4412 handsets. I checked an online manual that said go to VM, choose 0#, and choose the greeting settings, but dialing 777 takes us to our personal VM. Even on the reception, they have their own VM. Dialing in to the main # and choosing the 0 mailbox does not work either - it just replays the Auto-Attendant.

    Any ideas?

    1. Press "Chk Msg's" or whatever you normally dial to reach the voicemail system
    2. When the Voicemail System answers, dial 0#
    3. Enter the password and press #
    4. Enter 9 for programming
    5. Enter 3 for Automated Attendants
    6. Dial the Automated Attendant Number (1, 2, 3 or 4)
    7. Press 1 for the Day Greeting or 2 for the Night Greeting
    8. Press 6 to modify
    9. Press *# to keep the current Selector Code settings
    10. Press 1 to record new message
    11. Wait for the Tone, record the new message
    12. Press 1 at the end of the message
    13. Press 23 to playback the message
    14. If the new greeting is OK, press *# to Approve
    15. If you need to re-record the message, press 21 and return to step 11

Thank you for the quick response. These are the same instructions I found before. I'm still having problems reaching 0. If I dial VM from my phone (777 or program button), it first asks me for my VM password. Entering 0# is accepted as my password which isn't correct. Entering my password only gives options to my VM; not the operator.

The only other way I know to access the system is to call the company number. At that point, I can choose 0 for the mailbox, but it only gives me the auto-attendant as if I dialed the number. 0 and 0# does not get me into the system.

      Anything I'm missing?

If memory serves you will dial the 777 or whatever extension may be the hunt group and at the welcome to message you dial *R or *7 for voice mail retrieval. at that point you can follow the standard instructions...

Let's make sure we know which voicemail system you are using with your Magix-

When you dial 777, exactly what do you hear?

"Welcome to Merlin Messaging. Please enter your extension number and pound sign"

"Welcome to Audix. For help at any time, press *H"

          Something else entirely?

The instructions I gave you are for Merlin Messaging. The system administrator's mailbox is 0#, the password is set by the installer upon the very first login, so it could by anything he decided to use. It could be a simple, no-brainer, sequence, or it could be extremely complicated.

Since he stated he had to dial 777 and I believe he also said he had 4412 phones it would have to be a Magix and I have seen very few with external VM as these usually have magix messaging, If he dials the 777 hunt group which I can't imagine changing it then he should have no probnlems hitting *R when he hears thew prompt and then use his instructions to continue:
            1. Press "Chk Msg's" or whatever you normally dial to reach the voicemail system
            2. When the Voicemail System answers, dial 0#
            3. Enter the password and press #
            4. Enter 9 for programming
            5. Enter 3 for Automated Attendants
            6. Dial the Automated Attendant Number (1, 2, 3 or 4)
            7. Press 1 for the Day Greeting or 2 for the Night Greeting
            8. Press 6 to modify
            9. Press *# to keep the current Selector Code settings
            10. Press 1 to record new message
            11. Wait for the Tone, record the new message
            12. Press 1 at the end of the message
            13. Press 23 to playback the message
            14. If the new greeting is OK, press *# to Approve
            15. If you need to re-record the message, press 21 and return to step 11
Now the last thing I worked on was Aura CM 6 but I cut my teeth on the old Merlin and Magix systems and lets not forget Partner!!!

Let me know if this works and if not I can dig up the docs.....
