Teams: Direct Routing vs Calling App

Looking for some guidance on connecting to Teams from an IP Office setup. We have an SBC in place for remote SIP and we have started setting up Teams via Direct Routing, but I do want to make sure we are getting the full bang for our Teams users, so I wanted to see if there was a preference between Direct Routing and the Avaya Calling App.

Biggest one for me is being able to transfer calls and conference in users.

Direct routing uses the TEAMS client for all call control as well as audio packets. This does require either E3 WITH PHONE, or E5 license. The PHONE (or E5) license is what gives TEAMS client the dial-pad.

Avaya Calling app, allows user to click in TEAMS, but will pop the workplace client for all call control and audio packets. This does not care what O365 license is in place, works with all.
