We currently have an IP401 phone system on a depot in Nottinghamshire where they currently have an issue with making and receiving internal calls. For example our Head Office is in London and if we dial the extension in the Notts depot we can hear them, but they cannot hear us even though it displays it on the phone. The internal calls go over a VPN which is over a normal ADSL 2 line which also runs their data side as well. The internal calls were working up to a week ago then stopped. The router at the Notts depot has been exchanged for another Cisco, and also the IP 401 was exchanged yesterday, but internal calls still failed. The router and phone system in Head office has also been re-booted but still no joy. Has any body any suggestions as to what the cause could be.

One Way Internal Calls
It is hard to say without more information like what type of phones are they Digital or IP. I assume they are IP. It is probably a network issue, the audio packets are being mis-routed or dropped or you have a problem with shuffling for example. You can try turning off direct media path for the IP extensions and the VoIP trunk and see if that helps and if not you may have to use a sniffer to verify that the audio packets are being sent and recieved properly at both ends.
Cheers,
Pete
