The server is also an IP Office control unit, just one that runs in software on Linux. The more traditional hardware based IP Office control units (ie. IP500 V2) can be used as expansion systems for a network based around one of the Linux IP Office servers.
Without knowing how far you have got all I can do is summarize but the basics are:
Install the Linux based IP Office first and configure it as the primary server.
Get IP Office Manager installed on your PC and check that you can access and configure the primary server.
Add your licenses to the server.
Install your IP500 V2 as you would for any IP500 V2.
Using IP Office Manager connect again to the primary server.
Select the Expansion System icon and enter the IP address of the IP500 V2. You should see an initial configuration menu that allows you to configure the IP500 V2 as an expansion system.
When finished, Manager will create SCN trunks between the primary server and the expansion system that are used to route calls between the two systems.

"is it necessary to configure the ip office 500 v2 mode to "server edition"? at the initial configuration option..?"
- No, the IP500 V2 can be running as an IP Office Basic Edition or Essential Edition (unlicensed), the main key is that is should have a know IP address. Then when you are using Manager to add the IP500 V2 as an expansion to the primary servers config you will be prompted to change it to being a Server Edition expansion.
